While you might be interested in using writing in
your career, perhaps you also dream of being a published author or poet. As
many authors and poets will attest, though, this road is not an easy one.
However, there’s no reason you must take it alone. One great resource for
writers in Minnesota continues to be the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis.
According
to the Loft’s website, the center was founded in 1974, and aims to “advance the
artistic development of writers” as well as spread a passion and appreciation
of literature. Just how does the Loft do this? Well, for starters, the Loft
offers classes that help all levels of writers find their voices. Whether you
are a first time writer just wanting to figure out the basics or a veteran poet
with the desire to expand beyond expected, there are numerous teachers and
classes to help you achieve your goal. There are even classes that help you lay
out your story and begin your very own novel.
The
Loft also offers space for reading and writing groups to meet. Discussing your
writing or someone else’s may offer incredible insight that will help move you
along in your endeavors. Need a quiet place to collect your thoughts or start a
new chapter? The literary center has small private places that allow for
complete focus on whatever literary project you’re undertaking. With speakers
and writers making appearances, the Loft also offers ample opportunity for
writers to gain inspiration from those who have written and published literary
works.
Times and dates for the classes, speakers, and room availability differ. If you
are interested in anything the literary center offers, their website www.loft.org
is a fantastic resource. And while you are on the website, check out the
opportunities the literary center has listed. Throughout the year, the Loft
offers internships as well as writing contests that often result in the
publication of the winner’s work. Taking advantage of these opportunities might
just be your foot in the door to becoming a published writer.
